Aurora West College Preparatory Community,
It is an honor to introduce myself as the new principal at Aurora West College Preparatory Academy. I am immensely humbled to have been selected as the new leader of AWCPA, and have the chance to learn and grow with you as we continue the work of ensuring bright futures for our students. This community gives us the incredible opportunity to teach and learn from students and families representing so many backgrounds and cultures as they work to develop their multicultural identities and reshape the future. I plan to continue to advocate for meeting the needs of all of our students and community members within our building and with community resources.
As an immigrant to this country, I pride myself in being a leader in education and hope to inspire other immigrant and refugee youth to pursue their passion and work to disrupt the cycles of inequity in our system. I started my educational career as a secondary teacher in Denver, leading schools in implementing best practices for English Language Learners, building strong relationships with students, and ensuring equitable access to postsecondary and career opportunities for all. As an instructional coach, I have driven systemic efforts to create ongoing coaching structures, differentiated new teacher supports, implemented school-wide data culture efforts and a commitment to pedagogical best practices. As a leader in central office, I have spearheaded partnerships between the district and schools to close the opportunity gap, championed teacher leadership to empower teachers leading from the classroom, and elevated professional learning to be relevant, timely, engaging, and differentiated for educators because that’s the path to better serving students.
My husband, Dmitry, my daughter, Emilia, and I live in Aurora, where we are consistently trying to figure out how to navigate toddlerhood and have fun at the same time. We take care of my parents, Rudolf and Luda, who have been the best examples of resiliency and flexibility in our lives.
As we start our journey into 2017-18 and beyond, I look forward to learning from each of you and working together to create the best outcomes for our students. I know that a change is tough, and remain open to your voice and feedback in this process. Let us take on the new school year with a ‘daring to dream’ outlook. Please reach out to share your wisdom, hopes and concerns so we can make this journey better together.
